Aging is changing. Americans are living longer. Parmly’s strength over time has been to keep a pulse on what is needed and figuring out a way to accomplish and provide for the services that change requires.
Our strategic planning process told us that keeping seniors independent should be one of our top priorities. Market studies and demographic projections show strong demand in with our 65+ age population projected to rise sharply in coming decades.
Our vision of senior services recognizes a new definition of “productive aging” focusing on healthy, engaged living. Remaining active through wellness strategies enhances the quality of life and decreases premature dependence on others.
The Community Council and the leadership of the organization prepared for the dramatic demographic shift facing our society with initiatives based on the six dimensions of wellness--physical, vocation, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual.
Our expansion project redirects and focuses services provided in our continuum of care with:
- Our Vitalize! Wellness Centre with a wheelchair accessible whirlpool and lap pool as well as exercise rooms, senior friendly Nautilus equipment with program development and expansion for neurological impairments such as MS, Parkinson’s disease and CVA, orthopedic injuries and arthritis.
All seniors directly benefit from improved physical health and social interaction to maintain emotional health. The wellness center will significantly enhance the health of older adults who take advantage of the wellness center’s state-of-art equipment, pool and program resources.
- Lakeside Transitional Care Unit. Years ago, surgery or circumstances required an individual to move out of their home for long-term nursing care.
Today, the success of these surgeries enables individuals to seek only short-term care to gain strength and stability to return to their homes.
Our short-term stay unit with private rooms, a separate entrance and dining option from the nursing home and direct access to therapy services are special features of this new 14-bed unit.
- Isabelle's House, a 16-unit advanced memory loss assisted living apartments. Most recent data for people in their 60’s states that 1:10 will be affected with memory loss; in their 70’s at a 1:4 ratio; and in their 80’s at 1:2.
Our highly regarded Margaret’s House, for those with in the early stages of memory loss, features a smaller living environment for eight individuals on the Parmly campus. For some, a move out into the nursing home is required due to disease progression. They have an extremely difficult time making the transition from the calm atmosphere of Margaret’s House and assimilating into their surroundings at the Residence, which has more activity.
Isabelle's House, specifically designed for those with mid to late memory loss, offers private rooms while continuing the home situation similar to Margaret’s House and receiving the higher level of care that they require.
By providing a tailored combination of housing and supportive services we are offering vital aging choices for those on our campus as well as in the community.
