This course introduces concepts of the following: basic human needs, basic nursing and personal care skills, mental health and social needs, restorative services and resident's rights. The course meets the requirements of the federal government and the Minnesota Department of Health. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the State Competency Examination for the Nursing Assistant Registry.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the class is $575 which must be paid one week before the class starts. The state test out is an additional cost and is paid to your testing site when you decide to test out after finishing the class. The costs for the examination is $179.
I have heard that the state will reimburse me for taking the class?
Yes, the State of Minnesota will reimburse you for the cost of the class and the examination fee after you have completed 90 days of employment in a skilled nursing facility as a CNA. You have up to one year after testing to submit your original receipts for reimbursement, so save your receipts as proof of cost.
Will I have a job at Parmly when I finish?
The class is not connected to employment at Parmly LifePointes. If we have openings for nursing assistants when you finish the class you are welcome to fill out an application.
Can I miss one of the 10 days of the class?
No, you must attend all 10 days (80 hours).
Do I need to buy extra books?
No, they are included in your $575 tuition.
Do I need a uniform?
Yes, for the clinical days.
Do you ever do an evening class or are they all day classes?
Usually we give one evening class a year.
I used to be a nursing assistant for 5 years, but my registration ran out about 3 years ago. Do I have to retake the class?
No, if you have experience as a nursing assistant, you can just go and take the NAR state test. It has both a written and a practical skills portion to it. Anyone legally can take the test. If you pass, you are registered.

How many are in the class?
The maximum we take is 10. There is also a waiting list if someone cancels out.
What are the dates and times of the class?
September 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, October 1 and 2 from 7 am to 3:30 pm
September 24, 25 and 30 from 6 am to 2:30 pm
Where is the class given?
All of the classes are at Parmly LifePointes in our classroom at the Residence. The clinicals are supervised by your instructor with those living at the Residence.
